Family, Clan, Tribe, Relations...these are people you were born to, the people who you are connected to by chance of birth...or was it chance. Some random happening that had you born into that group of people as opposed to some other group, that had you born here and now as opposed to some other place in the world. For many of us we were born into a family group that us, nurtured us, and raised us the best way they knew how. Maybe when you look back on it they weren't quite the right people for you to be raised by but they did what they could.
For too many others, though, the clan they were brought to didn't love them, didn't nurture them, didn't raise them. For those of you like that, you have my sympathies.
If we look at this from the point of view that our birth is a random chance, an event swayed only by the vagaries of superstition, or the whim of some supreme being then our Family Group was out of our hands. We are not responsible for the where or the who we were born to. So all the good stuff wasn't my doing and I am not to blame for any of the bad stuff either. So if I got a silver spoon and no love...oh well that's the way to cookie crumbles. Or if I got the wrong side of the tracks and a daily beating, oh well those are the breaks. This world view seems flawed to me. It appears to take all the free will and free agency out of the equation. In other words, in a world of order and purposeful design the circumstances of my birth are completely random and without rhyme or reason.
Why on earth then would I choose my birth, and, therefore, my Clan, my Family to be anything less than beneficial? Why in the world would I choose to be born into an abusive situation? Or an impoverished 3rd world country? Wouldn't we all choose a birth that would give us love, and success, and peace, and joy, and comfort? I know I would. So, maybe choice isn't quite the right word. Unless the choice was made with a singular purpose...the move me closer to full actualization and to move the people around us closer to that same goal. Maybe the right concept is to understand that you are here to learn, to teach, to turn yourself (and the people around you) into a fully actualized human person.
If we look at this from this standpoint then we can see that our Family Group is there to serve our progress and we are there to help theirs. So I was brought into this life at this point in time, at this particular juncture to further both my own and the development of that group into a higher plane of being.
So was it a choice or an agreement with those other souls in the group? Both is the likely answer. When we look at our life in this light...the light of the choice to grow and to learn and to teach...then we must be constantly asking ourselves...what is the lesson, what am I supposed to learn, where is the growth curve in this experience?
You are here for a purpose. The people around you are here for a purpose. Your birth was not an accident and neither was theirs. If we start viewing life from this lens the events of my life might make a bit more sense instead of just bad luck or poor judgement. When we start from the point that says my purpose is to learn as much as I can in order to move myself toward greater actualization and to provide a foil for the people around me to learn the lessons they need then maybe I can begin to make sense of the things that have happened to me.
I f you think you were born into the wrong family maybe you need to think again and think differently. If you think you would have been different or better off in different circumstances you might be right. And you also might not getting the lessons your soul needed to get. If we don't move forward, if we aren't growing and learning we are dying, sliding into a very cold ennui with no end in sight. A sad fate indeed.
Embrace your life, your family, your circumstances. Say thank you for all the good and for all the adversity. All of those things made you who and what you are today. And who you are is pretty special...One of a kind. Be grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow. We believe in you and trust that you are going to move forward and lift all of us up.
We are Family.
